Rector of UNNES Inaugurates FabLab and Smart Classroom to Support Innovative Learning

Semarang, December 27, 2024 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), has officially launched two new facilities—a Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) and a Studio-based Smart Classroom—as part of its commitment to strengthening technology-based and innovative learning.
The inauguration, held at the D4 Building (1st floor), was officiated by the Rector of UNNES, and was marked by enthusiasm and strong participation from the academic community.
The FabLab and Smart Classroom were established through a grant from the LUPIC (Leading University Project for International Cooperation) program, coordinated by Sogang University, South Korea. The program focuses on strengthening international collaboration among universities, including the development of educational and research facilities and institutional capacity building.
With this support, FMIPA UNNES now has advanced facilities that enhance technology-based learning, foster innovation, and develop 21st-century skills among students. The FabLab is expected to serve as a hub for creativity and prototyping, while the Smart Classroom enables interactive and digitally supported learning.
In his remarks, the Rector of UNNES expressed his appreciation to Prof. Won Koo Lee, Director of the LUPIC Program, for his significant contribution to the development of UNNES's educational facilities. He also emphasized the importance of maximizing the use of these facilities.
“These facilities are expected to become a driving force for innovation and to enhance the global competitiveness of UNNES graduates in the digital era,” he stated.
